Anna Laura Wright, age 97, died on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. She was born in Houston, Texas on June 6, 1920, to Sam Irl and Vera (Sampson) Turner. Her childhood was spent in Louisiana and Houston before moving to Corpus Christi, graduating from Corpus Christi High School in 1938. On June 28, 1938, she married the love of her life, John T. Wright, Jr. They celebrated 79 anniversaries together.
Anna Laura is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Irl Dene (Jack) Bonner, her sister-in-law Evelyn (Hugh) White, and grandson Garrett Wright. She leaves behind her husband John, her sister Cloye (Bob) Shannon, her two sons, John T. “Tommy” (Susan) Wright, III, and Ken (Jean) Wright; grandchildren, Julianna (Richard) Carr, John (Staci) Wright IV, Laura (Hunter) Smith-Wright, Clayton Wright, and Landon Wright, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was active in various clubs, including the Junior League, Cotillion Alegre, and Belletristic. She loved being with friends whether traveling or playing bridge or golf. She leaves behind for all of her family a treasury of memories of holidays, celebrations, and fun times that they shared with her. She will be sorely missed.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017, at Rose Hill Cemetery, with Msgr. Roger Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the American Cancer Society.
