Betty J. Wentz, age 86, passed away October 14, 2017. She was born on November 24, 1930 to Paul and Ruthie Thrailkill in Corpus Christi, TX. Her younger years were spent in Cauthron, AR before moving back to Corpus Christi where she met the father of her children, Vernon Wentz. She graduated from Northwestern Ohio Nurses Training Center in 1965 earning the distinction of class president and opening the door of her lifelong passion of helping others. Betty was employed by the U.S. Civil Service as a nurse at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi until the hospital closed. She then joined CNATRA as support staff until her retirement from the civil service. She began a second career at the VA Hospital in Kerrville, TX as an LVN.
Betty enjoyed family gatherings and travel especially with her siblings and grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her love of laughter, sense of adventure, and devotion to family. Her crocheted afghans and scarfs are still cherished and loved by her family who she lovingly made them for.
Betty is preceded in death by her daughter Connie Wentz, grandson Eli Karac Yeager, and son-in-law Jim Hodson; her parents, brothers Johnny, Gordon, Louis, Kenneth, Grover, Grady Leon, and Jack Thrailkill; sisters Pauline Kelly, Francis Gerhardt and Patricia Ann Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty is survived her children Ronald (Christy) Wentz, Kim Yeager, Dixie Hodson, and Polly (Sam) Salas. Grandchildren Connie (Mitchell) Daniels, Bonnie Hodson, Joshua Hodson, Amber Paige Pena, James Wentz, and Zachery (Corinna) Wentz; great grandchildren Anthony Viramontez, Sydney Viramontez, Lexi Pena, Nicholas and Andrew Daniels; great-great grandson William Wolfe; brother Henry (Lynn) Thrailkill; sisters Mabel (Buck) Smith, Minnie Bethel, Billie Thrailkill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12pm to 1:30pm, October 20, 2017 at Reid Chapel at Seaside Memorial Park. A funeral service will be held at Reid Chapel on October 20, 2017 at 1:30pm with interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
