Carmen Gonzalez Trevino

May 31, 1938 ~ October 18, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old
Carmen Gonzalez Trevino
Carmen G. Trevino departed this life to her new home with our Lord Jesus Christ on October 18, 2017, surrounded by loving family. She was born Maria Del Carmen Gonzalez on May 31, 1938 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
Her parents, Florencio and Lela Gonzalez, left Mexico when Carmen was a toddler and took the family to Detroit, Michigan where they lived for a few years. They eventually settled in Texas in the early 40s and came to call Corpus Christi their home. Carmen attended Menger, Wynn Seale Jr High, and graduated from Ray High School in 1956. She met the love of her life, Fidel Balboa Trevino, and they married on June 6, 1960 and spent 57 happy and fulfilled years together. Together they have two children, Carlos F. Trevino and Liza Trevino Winnie.
Having been brought up in the thriving small business world of the 40s and 50s, Carmen gained enormous experience working in her parents stores which were located on the then, booming street of Leopard (uptown) in Corpus Christi, which were alongside so many other Corpus Christi notable family businesses. That invaluable experience would eventually lead her to open her own business, Casa D'Brides, in 1975, right where her parent's businesses had been. She successfully outfitted hundreds of brides and their entire wedding parties for over 35 years. She brought high bridal fashion to Corpus Christi, traveling twice a year to market, staging fashion shows, and organizing many successful in store events and bridal fairs. She was a master at this craft and loved what she did. She made sure to use this vocation to help others as much as she could by employing young women and nieces who needed work, whether she actually needed the help or not, so they could benefit from the experience. Her work allowed her to be a mother that could provide well for her children, which was the driving force behind her ambition.
In her spare time, she loved being with her family and made sure to be at all their events and special occasions as they were priority to her. She was a hands-on devoted and involved wife and mother...elegant, regal, and poised. She traveled when she could and especially enjoyed travel to Mexico to visit family. She adored Mexico for its rich and beautiful culture. She also enjoyed her one time visit to New York City which she had always wanted to see. She loved the USA and was a proud American having been brought up in the "Greatest Generation". She truly lived the American dream. As a young girl Carmen took piano lessons and became quite accomplished in classical music with her favorite pieces being waltzes.
Carmen was a dear hearted women who loved life, family, and our Lord Jesus Christ. She was a woman of extremely strong Catholic faith and wholesome values, who placed her trust in Him for all things. She was committed to God first and balanced her business, her marriage, and her family life with the dedication of a true servant of God. Carmen lived a wonderful and blessed life.
Carmen is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Fidel Balboa Trevino, her son Dr. Carlos F. Trevino (Nikki) and her daughter Liza Trevino Winnie ( Dr. Michael G. Winnie). Carmen's grandchildren: Michael A., Christopher, & Stephen Winnie, Carlos A., Nicolas, Estefania (Stefie) &, Miguel Trevino, and a great granddaughter, Sarah Trevino. She is also survived by her brothers, Florencio, Homer, and Rene Gonzalez, her cousins more like sisters, Sonia De La Garza, Irma Garcia and Julieta Garcia of Nuevo Laredo Mexico. She leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends, who were always in her prayers. She is preceded in death by her parents, Florencio Gonzalez, Jr. and Gudelia (Lela) Rendon Gonzalez.
The family extends thanks to all of her medical personnel and caregivers along with Monsignor Michael A. Howell for his years of friendship and spiritual support.
