Cruz Sanchez, age 86, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Cruz was born on June 27, 1931, in San Diego, TX to his parents Cruz & Agustina Sanchez. He retired after 25 years with the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Cruz was a young Golden Glove boxer, he then later advanced to coaching Golden Glove boxers at the Boys Club. Cruz was so proud when some of the boxers he coached later became contenders in the US Olympics Boxing Team. Cruz also had a love for ranching, cattle & horses and always dreamed of owning his own ranch. Cruz started his dream of owning his own cattle by purchasing his first cow and calf as a young police officer. About 10 years later Cruz’s dream came true when he purchased a ranch in Duvall county with registered Beef Master Cattle.
Cruz is preceded in death by his wife Odilina “Nina” Sanchez. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law Sandra (Tom) McWha and their children Shannon (Randy) Arevalo, Tommy (Heather) McWha; his son & daughter-in-law David (Amanda) Sanchez and their children David Jr., Natalie and Dustin; daughter & son-in-law Sylvia (Omar) Coronado Islas and their children Cassandra & Andrew; his sister: Olivia Dean (Bernie) and 6 great grandchildren Thomas & Liam McWha; Alexa Sanchez; Evan Gutierrez; Annasophia & Genevieve Arevalo.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Seaside Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7pm that same evening at the Seaside Chapel.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at River Ridge Nursing Home in the Specialty Care Unit for the care over the years they have provided to Cruz.
