Our mother, Dorthy Gower Thompson, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the age of 91 with her children by her side. She was born on April 29, 1926 in Murray, Kentucky to Arnold and Nancy (Ellis) Gower.

She was widowed December 30, 1980 when our father, RK Sheldon Thompson, passed away. We were a career Navy family and lived in many places until settling in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1960.

Mom was an active member of Lindale Baptist Church where her joy was teaching Sunday school for the toddlers until she could no longer do so. She was a woman of strong Christian faith which manifested in the love and compassion she bestowed on everyone that she encountered. She loved giving and getting hugs! She was a wonderful cook, baker of pies, flower gardener and unknown to most, a water color painter. She fulfilled a dream of flying by getting a small airplane license while our father served in the Pacific during World War II and participated in Powder Puff races. She loved animals and rescued many cats and dogs over the years. Those surviving her are now in our care.

Dorthy has joined in heaven her parents, husband, son, Paul Thompson, brother, William Gower, and sisters, Mary Sowa, Elizabeth Morgan and Lois Ellison. She is survived by her children, Mark Thompson, Gena Thompson and Mary Thompson (Russell Peterek).  Also many nieces, nephews and others in the Gower and Thompson families.

We would like to thank all the staff and especially Hall 200 at Windsor Nursing-Fig Street for their tender care and attention to our mother.

 A Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a Funeral Service following at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Seaside Reid Chapel, located at 4357 Ocean Dr. in Corpus Christi, TX. Interment to follow in Seaside Memorial Park.
