Welcome to the memorial page for

Douglas Wayne Barker

September 28, 1927 ~ August 3, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old
(Douglas) Wayne Barker graduated to Heaven on August 3, 2017. Wayne was the only child of Clyde H. Barker and Alpha (Covington) Barker. Wayne was born September 28, 1927 in Duncan, Oklahoma. He attended schools at Empire City, Chickasha and Duncan OK. He graduated from high school at Cement, OK. He attended Oklahoma University and Panhandle College, receiving his BS degree in 1953. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy. Wayne worked for Mobil Oil Company, retiring after 31 years when he was offered a job with Edwin L. Cox as Division Production Supt. When the company closed their office in Corpus Christi, he became manager of J.I. Hailey Trucking Company, retiring in 1992.
Wayne was always a people person. He enjoyed the people he worked with, his friends at church and many others he knew from various business places he visited. Anywhere Wayne went, someone would always come up to him to see how he was doing and see if he remembered them.
Wayne loved his family very much and was proud of them and their achievements. He enjoyed teasing his grandchildren about things like their music, their cell phones, and various things they were working on or interested in.
Wayne was a lifelong faithful Christian, a Baptist and a long-time member of Second Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. He was ordained as a deacon in 1966 and served in that role faithfully throughout the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara, and two children, Jerry (wife Adela) of Corpus Christi and Karen Baker (husband Brady) of Katy. Wayne also leaves two grandchildren Jessica Fearn (husband Daniel) of Corpus Christi and Douglas Barker of Orlando, FL., and one great granddaughter, Lindsey Fearn of Corpus Christi.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, August 6 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Seaside Funeral Home in Corpus Christi. The funeral services will be at Seaside Funeral Home on Monday, August 7 at 11:00 a.m. His Sunday School Class will act as honorary pall bearers. His pastor, Dr. Dana Moore will conduct the services.
Private services will be held at the graveside.
Special thanks to the staff of Serenity and Grace Hospice Care, especially Tiffany Waid.
