E.J. DeckertJune 3, 1927 ~ October 10, 2017 (age 90)
E.J. Deckert passed away on October 10, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born on June 3, 1927 at home in Comfort, Texas. He graduated from Edison High School shortly before enlisting in the Navy in 1944. He was stationed aboard the USS Cowpens which was homeported at Johnson Island in the South Pacific during WWII.
He moved to Corpus Christi in 1955 and worked at Six Points in Red’s Barber Shop until he opened his own business, E.J.’s Barber Salon, in July 1970 in the Padre Staples Mall until his semi-retirement when he closed the shop April 1, 2003. He then worked part-time in the profession he loved for several more years.
E.J. loved outdoor activities, especially boating, fishing, skiing, and partying at his residence on Lake Mathis. He also spent many years playing organized tennis matches with good friends. Time with his family were his most treasured experiences.
E.J. is survived by his wife, Sherry Deckert: daughters Donna (David) Carr of Lakeway and Margo (Mike) Moore of Corpus Christi; step-daughter Tyshan (David) Pyle of Corpus Christi; grandchildren Bryan (Sara) Deckert of Portland, Oregon, Ryan (Inga) Deckert of Portland, Oregon, Roy and Dustin Moore of Corpus Christi, William Pyle of Corpus Christi, Suzanne Revell of Dallas, Jessica (Jason) Thomas of Austin, six great-grandchildren; two nieces; and his two precious cats, Richard Russel and Precious.
He was preceded in death by, his mother, father, and sister: Peggy Wacker; his son: Ronnie Deckert; and his three loving dogs Scotch, Soda, and Little Man.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Bill Dennis and his staff for their care and compassion thru the years and during this difficult time.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
