Chico Mason

March 10, 1930 ~ July 12, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old
F. B. (Chico) Mason II passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly on July 12, 2017. He was born in Woodville, Texas on March 10, 1930 to Fagan and Bobbie Mason. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, Aggie football games, hunting, fishing, and golf. He never met a stranger and always made sure people knew they mattered. He took great delight in teaching his sons, daughter in-laws and grandchildren about life.
He was a lifetime resident of Corpus Christi. Chico graduated from Corpus Christi High School, where he was most popular boy in school and a cheerleader, and Texas A&M University (College Station) class of 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the army as a tank platoon leader. He returned to Corpus Christi after the war.
He started working for Heldenfels Brothers in high school and later found his calling as a salesman, working for the B.D. Holt Co, and finally founding Chico Mason Machinery.
Chico was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. He served as a youth sponsor, vestry member and High School Sunday School teacher. He coached in the National Little League organization and encouraged his sons to excel in sports. He served for many years as Chief Akelah of Cub Scout Pack 180, president of the Corpus Christi A&M club and long-time member of Beachcombers.
He is proceeded in death by his first wife June Carter Mason, his parents Fagan and Bobbie Mason, and daughter-in-law, Mary Reid Mason. Surviving family include his wife Yvonne Gerbig Mason, children Jeff Mason and wife Sue, John Mason, Kirk Mason and wife Lisa, grandchildren Rand Mason, John Mason and wife Rachael, Michele Anderson and husband Josh, Mark Mason and wife Chelsea and great grandchildren Ashlyn Mason and Jett Anderson. Also survived by Gary Gerbig, Judy Curnutte and husband Bill, grandchildren Greg Gerbig and wife Kate, Paula Joe Zunker and husband Reece, Barret Curnutte and wife Ellen, Everett Curnutte and wife Kattie, Georgie Arenaz and husband Jonathan and great grandchildren Noble, Shiloh, Canon and River Curnutte, Layla and Aiden Curnutte, and Sophia and Travis Arenaz.
A memorial service will be at Church of the Good Shepherd on July 17, 2017 at 1:00 pm.   
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of the Good Shepherd or charity of your choice.
