Gene S. Villarreal, 92, of Corpus Christi was called to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family, on January 15, 2018. He was born to Jose Maria and Natividad Sanchez Villarreal on September 17, 1925 in Encino, Texas.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Armida, parents, siblings, Leonel, Jose Maria, Jr., Octavio, Ruben and Teresita Andrade.
He graduated from Falfurrias High School and shortly after he proudly served the U.S. Army during WWII with the 7th Armored Sherman Tank Division as a Gunner specialist in Europe. This was followed by his post-war service in the Army of Occupation in Germany. After his service, he graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, where he received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. This began his 36-year career in education as a teacher, director of early childhood, counselor and Assistant Principal at CCISD. He was an active rancher and real estate investor throughout his lifetime. He was a volunteer leader of the Boy Scouts of America and served 28 years as a Board Member of the CCATCU that included serving as Chairman of the Board.
He is survived by two children, Gene (Cheryl) and Rick (Penny) Villarreal, his grandchildren Gene, Zachary, Penny Michelle Perez, Paul J. McKinney, great grandchildren Ryan and Roman Perez, siblings, Tomasita Bayarena, Avelino Villarreal, Raul Villarreal and Tina Pena, sisters-in-law, Amelda Garcia and Ludivina Vela, along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
A Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Seaside Reid Chapel, a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church followed by an entombment at Seaside Memorial Park with military honors.
