Welcome to the memorial page for

Jack H. Bennett

March 3, 1930 ~ October 7, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old
Jack Harlan Bennett passed away October 7, 2017 at the age of 87. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Janet; his daughter Sherry (Ken) Bercaw; his grandchildren Shane Williams, Megan Bercaw, Jesse Shuck, & Chance Bennett; and his great grandchildren Hailey, Austin, Braydon, & Jordan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mae Bennett Lawson and Guy Clifford McKnight; his son Jack Bennett Jr, & his grandson Joshua Bercaw.
Jack was born in Fargo, North Dakota where he met his wife of 66 years. He was a medic in the US Navy from 1947-1953. When he was discharged, he started a career in the electrical field, eventually going to work for Bechtel Corp. The family had a lot of adventures traveling from Minnesota to Colorado, Washington to Maryland, Indiana to Arizona, and California to Texas. It was one of those moves with Bechtel that brought Jack and his family to the Rockport/Corpus Christi area for the first time in 1970. He left for Pennsylvania in 1971 but always had a longing for the Texas Gulf Coast.
In 1978, Jack decided to move back to Corpus Christi and went into partnership with Fairbairn Electric. In 1984, Jack became owner of A. G. Hill Power which he operated until selling in 2004 to retire.
Jack dearly loved his yearly summer trips for 5 months to their second home in Detroit Lakes, MN where he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and visiting with family and lifelong friends. He wrote weekly letters to the editor, was always quick to crack a joke, was full of life, and never met a stranger. He was always a great provider for his family. Money was never too tight for golf & fishing, including a series of boats from 12’ to 40’ long. He played golf twice weekly until the beginning of October 2017 when he had knee replacement.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Jeanette Salazar for taking great care of both Jack & Janet over the last few years.
Memorial donations may be made to the USO.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Seaside Funeral Home.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
As Jack would say when he was leaving, “Toodles”!
