James Riley Kilgore passed away in the early morning of January 29, 2018 to join our Heavenly Father after a long courageous strong battle with cancer. James was born on May 3, 1949 at Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX. James attended and graduated from Ray High School where he met Gloria Richter who he married and began his family with while attending college in Kingsville, TX.
James was an advocate in sales and would always say that he could sell ice to an Eskimo. James worked side by side with his father and brother in the car business of Kilgore Motor Company for years and then moved on to Susser Petroleum Company for 38 plus years where he sold gas to many happy customers all over South Texas.
James motto was always God, Family and Business. James enjoyed family, fishing, boxing, baseball, sharing memories and of course, “chickens”. Yes, “chickens” he loved and talked about them all the time. James had chickens when he was a little boy and bought his first hat on his own with his chicken money. James was known for his special hats he would wear and loved.
James will forever be remembered for his love of family, his large personality and sense of humor.
James was preceded in death by this father, Charles J. Kilgore, mother, Mary A. Borges, 2 brothers, Charles “Sonny” Kilgore and John Kilgore along with two daughters, Robin L. Kilgore and Helen M. Kilgore, and his first wife Gloria Kilgore.
James is survived by his daughters, Kelly F. Kilgore and Tara J. Babbitt and two sisters, Helen Kilgore Bryan and Robin Trice and many grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Seaside Reid Chapel. A Rosary will be recited in honor of James’s life at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Seaside Reid Chapel. Entombment will follow in Seaside Memorial Park. For the rosary please use the entrance off of Robert Dr. All other entrances will be closed.
