Lamar Sanchez Cantu, 78, passed away on November 22, 2017. She was born on June 24, 1939 in Laredo, Texas to Oscar Wellington Sanchez and Artemia Davila Sanchez.
She graduated from Martin High School in Laredo in 1956 and from Texas Women’s University in 1960. She settled in Corpus Christi after marrying Jesus Margarito Cantu, her husband of 45 years, who preceded her in death.
Over the years Lamar worked as a biology and math teacher, a social worker, and in several business offices in the medical field. After retiring, she volunteered with the Literacy Council in C.C. and became an active member of AARP in C.C. Lamar was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for more than 45 years. She was an avid reader and loved watching Spanish novelas.
Lamar was known for her radiant smile, her grace, kindness, gentleness, and unconditional love for all.
She is survived by three daughters, Margot Cantu of Atlanta, GA, Yvonne Cantu of Austin, TX, and Melinda (Alejandro) Herrera of Corpus Christi, TX; two granddaughters, Elyse and Olivia Herrera; a sister, Isela (George) Dabdoub of Laredo, TX, and one niece, Georgette Dabdoub of Laredo, TX.
A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Seaside Reid Chapel.
