Louis (Lou) Schneider, 91, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully Jan. 6, 2018. Lou was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He will be remembered for his love of the Lord, devotion to his family and his perfectionist approach to his many crafts.
Lou was born Nov. 25, 1926, in Jakarta, Indonesia, marrying his wife Mathilde (Meta). He left Indonesia after the Japanese occupation in WWII, and spent his early adult life in the Netherlands, before immigrating to the United States in 1961. In the United States, he ultimately settled in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, where he raised his two daughters, Patricia (Tricia) and Marguerite (Margy). There, he worked as a draftsman, until he retired and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 2004.
Lou met the love of his life in 1949, and he and Meta recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Lou loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his great-grandson. In his free time, Lou enjoyed stained glass and crafts as well as golf. He also was very proud and fondly recalls his Dutch-Indonesian roots and the time he spent in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. As a devout Catholic, he remained active in church throughout his life. In Corpus Christi, he and Meta attended St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.
Lou is survived by his loving wife, Meta Schneider; his daughters, Tricia (Butch) Houck and Margy (Dave) Shiller; his grandchildren Trey Houck, Sarah Houck, Samantha (Stewart) Fossett, Thomas Houck, and Kyle Shiller; his great-grandchild, Carter; and his nieces and nephews in New England and in the Netherlands.
The Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. The Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
