Maria “Sylvia” Garcia, age 65, passed away October 20, 2017. She was born on October 16, 1952 to Belisario and Manuela Alanis in Brownsville, Texas. She was raised in Brownsville, Texas and graduated from Brownsville High School in 1971. She was married to her husband, Joe Henry Garcia, for 30 years, divorcing in 2005.
Sylvia was employed by Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She will always be remembered for her laughter, devotion to family and deep love she had for her children and grandchildren.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her mother, Manuela and father, Belisario.
Sylvia is survived by her children: Melissa Gonzalez & Brian Garcia, their spouses, six grandchildren; brother, Belisario Alanis; sister, Mary Brown and their spouses; three nephews and one niece.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
