Marilyn Lucille Douglas

August 8, 1948 ~ October 1, 2017 (age 69) 69 Years Old
Marilyn Lucille Barton Douglas went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 69 on the evening of Sunday, October 1st.  After battling breast cancer for over a year, she passed away peacefully at her home in Corpus Christi, TX, with her family by her side.  She was born on August 8, 1948 to Ralph and Teeny Barton in New Iberia, Louisiana.  She graduated from New Iberia High School in 1966 and the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.  She married the love of her life, Joseph Pickens Douglas III, on September 6, 1969.  They recently celebrated their 48th anniversary.
Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher.  She enjoyed participation in Brighton Park Baptist Church, Christian Women’s Club, and various Bible studies and children’s ministries.  Her deep devotion to her family and friends was only surpassed by her love for Italian food and chocolate. Marilyn lived life to the fullest enjoying God’s creation, spending quality time with family and friends, organizing fellowships, and traveling with her husband, children, and grandchildren.  Her spirit of generosity and contagious smile was an inspiration to everyone she encountered.  She will always be remembered for her joyful laughter, unwavering Christian faith, and her lifelong service to the Lord.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Teeny Barton.  Marilyn is survived by her husband Joseph, two daughters, Mekelle Waters and husband Danny, Christina Gabrysch and husband Jeremy, and one son, Joey.  She was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren, Nate and Taylor Gabrysch and Logan and Deacon Waters.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Debra Patt, Dr. Carl Neusch, Lana Zolotukhina PA, and nurses Eva and Jennifer of Texas Oncology in Austin, TX.  We also give special thanks to Rosie and her team at APC Home Health Services for their thoughtful and gentle care.
Memorial services will be held on October 14th at Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, TX  78412.  The graveside service will begin at 10 AM in the Resurrection section of the park located at the corner of Santa Fe Street and Robert Street. The memorial service celebrating Marilyn’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 AM, with a reception to follow at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, 100 North Shoreline Boulevard, Corpus Christi, TX  78401.
In honor of Marilyn, donations may be given to one of her favorite ministries, Stonecroft at www.stonecroft.org/donate.
