Robert Dillard Rather passed away after a short illness on February 14, 2018 at the age of 98. He was born on April 5, 1919 to Eddy and Myrtie Rather in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dillard enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945 during WWII and during the Korean War 1950-1952. He married his wife, Lois Rather, of 76 years on April 21, 1945.
Dillard was retired from the C.C. Naval Air station. He loved God, his family and friends.
Dillard is preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Lois Popp Rather, sisters: Velma Barfield, Audrey Lewis, Mary Catherine White and brother, Carol Rather. Left to cherish his memories are his children: Gary N. Rather, Robert N. Rather (Ginny) and John H. Rather (Susan), grandchildren, Arron Nickens (Laia), Suzanne Rather Chapa (Izzy), John R. Rather, Alexandra Rather and great- grandson, Isaac Chapa along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Seaside Reid Chapel.
