Sergio Rodriguez Casanova, age 63, passed away after a valiant fight with cancer on February 8, 2017. He was born on September 4, 1953 in San Benito, Texas to Timoteo and Dora Casanova. He was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas where he spent much of his childhood and adolescent in Boy Scouts of America (Troop 235, Rank of Life). He played the trumpet in the Moody High School marching band where he graduated in 1971. Sergio graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi in 2001 with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree.

He married the love of his life, Yolanda, on August 30, 1986. He was also a hardworking and dedicated employee of the United States Postal Service for 31 years. Sergio was a devoted and loving husband and father that will always be remembered for his quiet nature and witty sense of humor. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan, and loved to listen to Neil Diamond and Elvis Presley. Sergio loved his wife’s cooking, dancing with her, and could always be counted on to assist family and friends with home and car repairs. Sergio’s best moments were spent with his family and friends. Throughout his life he was giving and compassionate and selflessly made the decision to be an organ donor.

Sergio is preceded in death by parents, Timoteo and Dora Casanova. He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Yolanda Casanova; daughter, Deanndra Casanova; son, Rudy Hoyt; his siblings who he loved, Jorge Casanova, Tim Casanova (Janie), Michael Casanova and Hugo Casanova; mother-in-law, Alicia Gonzalez. Sergio is also survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, he was especially close to Manuel Gonzalez (Rosemary) who he loved like a brother. Sergio is also survived by many nephews and nieces who dearly loved him.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
