Obituary

Anne Dunn passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on the evening of the 18th of May 2022.
Anne Blair Furman Parr Dunn was delivered by her father on the 2nd of October 1933, in Corpus Christi, Texas at Spohn Hospital. She was the middle daughter of Dr. McIver and Claire Furman and sister to Claire and Mary. Anne attended Menger Elementary School, Wynn Seale Junior High, and was a member of the 1951, first graduating class of W. B. Ray High School. Upon graduation, she went to the University of Texas at Austin and then spent a year living in New York City with her two favorite aunts.
She returned home and married Archer Parr of San Diego, Texas. They were blessed with two daughters, Mary Eileen Parr and Anne Claire Parr. In 1965, she married Robert Lawrence Dunn and they were together until his death in 2001.
Anne was born with the heart of a volunteer. Her first taste of volunteer work came at the start of World War II by way of knitting squares for the “boys over seas”. As an adult, her volunteerism continued while participating in the Junior League of Corpus Christi, Cotillion Club, Order of de Pineda and the Arts and Flowers Garden Club. She felt a strong desire to contribute more. She always instilled in others the importance of education. Anne had the opportunity to continue her education at Del Mar College. She earned a degree in Mental Health from Del Mar college followed by a Psychology degree from Corpus Christi State University in 1987. It was at this point she decided to become involved in the AIDS epidemic. She was one of the founders of the PASSAGE, former director of the Coastal Bend AIDS Education Project, member of the Coastal Bend AIDS Foundation, and member of the Mayor’s Commission on HIV/AIDS. She was also a founding member of the Del Mar College Former Students’ Association and served as the Executive Director of the Coastal Bend Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. She was inducted into Del Mar College Students Wall of Honor in 1996 and awarded with the YMCA Women in Careers Award. Being a 5th generation Corpus Christian was at the heart of her service to others, serving on the Texas Historical Commission and the Nueces County Historical Society.
Anne, later in life was compelled to complete the Chaplain program at Memorial Medical Center. She was gifted to performing chaplain duties at local hospitals ministering to the sick. In 2007, she moved to the Texas Hill County and participated in various hilly country community projects, including receiving her Texas Master Gardener certificate. Anne returned to Corpus Christi in 2011 and continued with her many childhood friendships and community service involvement including the Athenian Club.
Anne is survived by her daughters Eileen Parr (Mark Maley) and Anne Parr; granddaughter Porter Sellers, grandson Brandon Sellers and his wife Stacey; and great grandchildren Elizabeth and Eve Sellers. Older sister Claire’s children, Keever Wallace, (Brooke), their children Julia, her daughters Lily, Eileen (Sean), Jesse (Denise) and their son JJ. Kitty Smith, Don Smith (Gina), and their son, Alexander Smith (Ashley) and their sons Tristen and Carson. She is also survived by her sister Mary’s children, James, Richard and Courtney Ross.
Anne loved the city of Corpus Christi and so wanted to live to see the new bridge completed. A love of travel led her to the 4 corners of the world and learning about different cultures inspired her when she returned home, always full of mementos for her family. A lifelong animal lover, she also leaves behind her beloved dog Maggie and cats, Minnie and Lily.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Robert Webster and his staff for their loving care of our mother along with Brookdale Trinity Towers where she resided for the last 6 years. Special thanks to Lauren Dietz, who has become a member of the family and Aadi Home Health and Hospice for the care she received. Anne’s final days were spent with her loved ones and the amazing team of Reyna Zapata, Michelle Spencer, Rocio Lara, Lissette Smith, and Tabatha Davila. Anne’s Friends at Trinity Tower will always hold a special place in our heart for their friendships while she lived there. The stray cats on the hill will miss her, along with the birds and squirrels she fed daily. We would also like to acknowledge the wise counsel she received from Martin L. Davis, her attorney and friend.
Having the honor to serve, as pallbearers, are Mark Maley, Brandon Sellers, Keever Wallace, Don Smith, Jesse Wallace, and Bradley Welfare.
Anne loved children and animals and she would kindly request in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Driscoll Children’s Hospital, The Cattery or a community organization of your choice.
