Obituary

Antonia M. Mercado (Toni), Corpus Christi, Texas. On Tuesday, May 1, 2018 the Lord called to our beloved one and gently carried her from this earth to her new home. It is with great sorrow but great joy that we announce our undying love to this beautiful person we call honey, mom, grandma, great grandma, and aunt.

Toni was born on October 28, 1929 in Laredo, Texas. She attended Martin High School. Toni was the most warm, loving, joyful and happy person God has blessed all of us with. She was incredibly outgoing, and was always very positive with never a negative word spoken to or about anyone. Toni was always smiling or laughing and she would attract people to her like nectar attracts hummingbirds. To know her is to love her. Toni made instant friends wherever she went and would talk to complete strangers and turn them into instant friends within minutes. Her spirit and personality was so happy and infectious that she would make anyone feel completely comfortable and like they were part of her family. Toni has been a phenomenal role model & mentor to her family and many people throughout Corpus Christi. She always led by example. She did everything with 100% effort, dedication, integrity, leadership and passion, and is the epitome of how we should all live our lives. We have been so blessed by God to have had so many wonderful years with Toni as our mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, and friend. We shall surely miss Toni, but we will always be comforted by the knowledge that we have an amazing new angel watching over us until we all meet again in heaven. By then, she will have everything completely organized and ready for our arrival at the pearly gates.

Toni’s accomplishments throughout her life were many. She was an accounting manager for Western Auto, a Cub Scout leader, a registrar at Nixon High School in Laredo Texas, election judge for the Republican Party precinct 63, re-opened the Catholic diocese credit union, manager at Southern Pacific & Asarco credit unions, a leader at credit union conventions and Republican convention throughout the country, and a consultant with credit unions throughout Corpus Christi.

Toni is preceded in death by her son Eddie Mercado, granddaughter Kayla Elvira Mungaray, sister Herminia Meza, and her parents.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 1/2 years Ed Mercado Jr, her daughters and their husbands-Olga and Richard Mungaray and Janie and Raymond Braun, three granddaughters Kristina (Robbie) Timmons, Kathryn Mungaray Ceballos, and Kamille (Robert) Espinoza, and five great grandsons Ricky, Bobby, Jason, Richard Aiden, and Ryan Antonio.
