Obituary

Barbara Starling Gallagher, 92, went to be with our Lord on June 15, 2020.  Barbara was born on March 2, 1928 in Stockton, California, and early in her life moved with her family to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she attended school graduating from Corpus Christi high school in 1945. After high school, Barbara had several jobs, one of her favors she spoke about often was her time working for a radio station in Corpus. She loved to talk about how exciting it was to sometimes fill in for the local broadcasters. She later took a secretarial position with La Gloria Oil & Gas, which was subsequently acquired by Texas Eastern, a gas pipeline company, resulting in her relocation to Houston, Texas. Barbara lived the majority of her life in Houston, Texas working as an executive secretary for the gas pipeline company.  She married James L. Gallagher, the love of her life, on November 23, 1959 and remained married to him until his death in 1979. She never remarried and retired from work in 1983 so that she could spend time with family.

Barbara loved life, enjoyed traveling, playing with her cats (Big Nicki and Little Nicki), taking pictures and spending time with her many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She never missed a grand niece’s dance recital or birthday party. She was always a joy to be with and was always the epitome of a “Lady”. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Gallagher, her brothers William Starling, John (Jack) Starling and Dr. Kenneth Starling as well as her two sisters, Nevillene Parker and Betty Rankin. While she had no children of her own, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews as well as great grand-nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and will miss her.

We wish to thank the nurses and staff at Copperfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation Hospital and All Star Hospice for their help and care of Barbara.
