Obituary

Barbara Ann Peterson, 89, passed away at her home in Corpus Christi on September 28, 2021. She was born in Dallas, TX on March 27, 1932 to Hilary F. and Mary (Dee) Rush. Barbara was raised in Dallas and graduated from Dallas W.H. Adamson High School in 1949. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, J. Soren Peterson Jr., on September 1st, 1950.

Barbara and Soren eventually set their roots in Corpus Christi where they raised their four sons. As a devoted and loving mother, Barbara spent the majority of her time patiently trying to get those boys to stay in line at school and shuttling them from game to game to game so that everyone had every opportunity to reach their fullest potential. She was even known to put on a catcher’s mitt in the backyard so that pitching practice would not be missed. Barbara was also a loving grandmother, taking advantage of any opportunity to attend so many of those special events for any of her grandchildren as well as traveling to amazing locals throughout the world creating lifetimes of memories. She loved watching football on TV, especially her Cowboys and Aggies. She also enjoyed birding in South Texas, gardening, and playing Bridge with her closest friends. If that wasn’t time consuming enough, Barbara also devoted huge amounts of time to the Catholic Diocese, including being a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She also volunteered hours upon hours at the local Loaves and Fishes as well as Mission of Mercy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Etta and Hilary Frances Rush; her sister, Carmen (Rush) Manning; her husband, J. Soren Peterson Jr., and her son, Gregory Rush Peterson.

Left to cherish Barbara’s memories and remember her love are her sons, J. Soren Peterson III, Jay Byron Peterson (Gloria) and Douglas Pierce Peterson (fiancé Brienna Martinez); eight grandchildren, Chelsea Lea Peterson (John McLellan), JS Brit Peterson IV, Jayla Billadeau (Patrick Jacob), Alissa Hayslip (Harrison Tyler), Alexandra Kennedy Peterson, Lauren Brynn Peterson, Christopher Rush Peterson and Gregory Pierce Peterson; four great grandchildren, Eli Gregory Billadeau, Gavin Rook Billadeau, Piper Marie Hayslip and Lennon Rose Hayslip, and many more wonderful nieces and nephews.
