Benjamin James Janosek

April 10, 1930 ~ August 11, 2018 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Obituary

On August 11, 2018, Benjamin James Janosek, 88 years old, went home with his Savior Jesus Christ after a long but courageous battle with cancer. Ben was born on April 10, 1930 in Corpus Christi, TX to John and Angeline Janosek.
Ben graduated Valedictorian of the first senior class of 1947 from West Oso High School and was a very proud Army MP, who served in the Korean War. After proudly serving his country, Ben joined the Corpus Christi Fire Department where he was a Captain and retired after 33 years. He worked for the Credit Bureau for several years before joining the staff of his beloved St. Pius X Church, working on the weekly bulletin. He loved his St. Pius family and would always enjoy going to church functions where he could share his stories and tell his famous jokes and he always had one. Ben was extremely proud of his Czech heritage and would share stories about his family and the times on the old farm. Throughout his life, Ben had a huge love of animals and owned many dogs and cats as well as other God’s creatures and passed this love on to his daughter, Veronica. He loved his Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame Football teams; he would always say he can’t wait until fall for football. His main past time was reading, and doing crossword puzzles and yes, he did them in pen. Ben was one of the most giving individuals one could know, donating to many charities and nonprofit organizations throughout his lifetime. He will be remembered lovingly by his family and friends.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, John, Fred, Albin, Frank, Wilemina, Helen, Emilie and Alice. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley, daughter, Veronica (Jim) Lankford, stepsons, Rory (Laura) Escobar, Robby (Sandra) Escobar, stepdaughter, Rhonda Tullier, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 19 nieces and nephews.
