Butch Shook

October 18, 1968 ~ April 15, 2024 (age 55) 55 Years Old

Obituary

Arlin G. Shook Jr. “Butch”, 55 of San Antonio, Texas, passed away suddenly on April 15, 2024, in Isla Mujeres, Mexico while vacationing with his beloved wife, Chari Vandever Shook.

Butch was born on October 18, 1968 to Barbara and Arlin Shook in Corpus Christi, Texas. There he attended and graduated from W. B. Ray High School. Butch excelled in sports throughout his life including baseball, tennis, and golf.  As a teen, Butch traveled throughout the Southern United States competing in BMX motorcross racing with The Evans Brothers Racing Team. He was also part of a BMX Trick team called “The Flying Hawaiians.” Additionally, Butch shared a passion for converting Volkswagen Beetles into Baja Bugs with his father Arlin. Together they worked on several Bajas and this hobby continued well into Butch’s adult life.

Immediately following graduation, Butch moved away from Corpus Christi to start his career in sales. Butch was an excellent and devoted salesman and in 2007, his hard work led him to becoming partner and Sr. Vice President at Gateway Printing & Office Supply. Butch was a natural leader who was admired and respected by his colleagues, employees, and clients alike. He led a successful sales division and was a driving force in Gateway becoming an industry leader by securing contracts in key markets like Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Houston and the valley. He was also credited for creating and implementing innovative ways to utilize supplies during the COVID pandemic.

Despite Butch’s great success, his greatest pride in life was the birth of his son Stephen Shook in 2004

When Butch was not working, he spent cherished time with his wife Chari, his son Stephen, extended family and a tight knit group of close friends. He was passionate about fishing and boating, canning fruits and vegetables from his own garden, and loving on his furry kids Zoomer and Sophie. You could also find Butch volunteering for causes near and dear to his heart like Elf Louise and the Hurricane Harvey Relief effort.

Butch is preceded in death by his mother Barbara Ann Shook and brother Robert Alexander. He is survived by his beloved wife, Chari Vandever Shook, his son, Stephen Shook, his father Arlin Shook, his brother Wayne Shook (wife Angela) and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends to which his departure comes as a great shock and devastating loss.
