Calvin Mitsuo Kimura, age 79, passed away on August 22, 2021. He was born on July 4, 1942 to Hisashi and Irene Kimura in Kealakekua, Kona, Hawaii where he was raised. He spent his childhood helping out on the coffee farm earning money for college. Attending college was very important for his mother Irene. His father, Hisashi, spent a great deal of time raising Calvin and his brother Isaac (Ike) while his mother managed the family’s fabric store – H. Kimura Store.
Cal graduated from South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy in 1967. After graduating from Pharmacy school, he practiced as a pharmacist for over 50 years in many different types of settings. He was a partner, owner, pharmacist manager and pharmacist in charge. He then switched to retail pharmacy with K-Mart and ended with Walgreens. He was an active community member with the Western Iowa Tech Community College, member of the Morningside Masonic Lodge where served as a Worshipful Master and Masonic Instructor.
His hobbies were stamp and coin collecting, cooking, hunting and fishing and he loved Spurs basketball, Spam musubi, Hawaiian cookies, Macadamia nut coffee, his little dog, Bobo, flip-flops, watching Three’s Company and Gunsmoke reruns. Cal enjoyed his annual fishing trips with his friends.
Cal always had a smile on his face. He wanted everyone around him to be happy. And he knew good food would make everyone happy. So he VERY often offered to buy rounds of coffees, milkshakes, pastries, and breakfast tacos for his pharmacy staff, and they all LOVED him.
Cal married his wife, Mary Grace Kimura of 22 years on December 24, 1998. Cal was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Cal is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Glenn and Isaac (Ike) Kimura and his wife Mary.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughters- Debra Lopez (Roger and children, Rylan, Rowan and Darcy); Heidi Kimura Flickinger (John and children Zachary and Matthew) and Nicole Kimura; sister Winifred Kimura; brother Brian Kimura (spouse Felicia).
