Carlos J. De La Paz, age 91, passed away on September 3, 2021, surrounded by family, at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on December 15, 1929, the son of the late Ernesto and Elvira (Gomez) De La Paz in Brownsville, Texas, where he was raised with his 5 siblings.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp at the age of 17 to serve in World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. He married Maria E. Huerta on January 30, 1953 and raised 5 children.
Carlos retired from the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) after 35 years of working as an Electrical Equipment Repair Leader. On October 5, 1979, he received a congratulatory letter from President Jimmy Carter thanking him for his substantial contributions in improving government operations and his help in progressing productivity that was vital to the social and economic well-being of the Nation.
Carlos enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Old Western movies. He cared deeply for his children and grandchildren and enjoyed hearing about their success. He had a strong work ethic and valued continued education and work place promotions as top priority for his family. His favorite saying was… “We’re Burning Daylight.” He will be greatly missed.
Carlos J. De La Paz is preceded in death by his wife, Maria E. Huerta; father, Ernesto De La Paz; mother, Elvira Gomez De La Paz; brothers, Ernesto De La Paz, Juan De La Paz; sisters, Anna Maria Garcia and Maria De La Luz De La Paz.
Carlos J. De La Paz is survived by his twin sister, Teresa De La Paz Herrera of Brownsville; daughter, Rosalinda De La Paz Walthall (David) of San Antonio; son, Carlos E. De La Paz (Maria G.); daughter, Elvira De La Paz Melendez (Henry); son, Hector De La Paz (Rose); son, Joe Albert De La Paz (Celia); grandchildren, Evelyn De La Paz Rios (Simon); Marina Walthall of Austin, Andrew De La Paz, Rebekah De La Paz of Phoenixville, PA, Joseph De La Paz of Austin and Matthew Melendez.
