Obituary

In Loving Memory of Carol Hayley-Brassington

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Carol Hayley-Brassington, who departed from this world on May 23, 2023. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever remain in our hearts. Carol was born on January 17, 1942, in Brownwood Texas. She was baptized at Arlington Heights Church of Christ at age 27 by Minister Gene Polvado, who baptized 4 generations of her family.

Carol was a devoted and nurturing mother to her three adoring children, Rick, Barbara, and Jaxson. Her unwavering love and selflessness were evident in every aspect of her life. She embraced the joys and challenges of motherhood with grace, always putting the needs of her children above her own. Her children were the apple of her eye, and she delighted in every milestone and accomplishment they achieved. The bond she shared with each of her children was truly extraordinary, filled with countless moments of laughter, guidance, and unwavering support. She was especially close to her granddaughter, Jordan, and was able to attend her granddaughter’s wedding to Cade Savage at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland; Cade is currently deployed.

Carol’s passion for cooking brought joy and sustenance to all who had the pleasure of tasting her delicious creations. Her kitchen was a haven of warmth and love, where family and friends would gather to enjoy her special way of cooking that could never be replicated in any restaurant. The aroma of her dishes filled the air, creating an atmosphere of comfort and togetherness. Even in her eighties, Carol relished every opportunity she had to please us with her culinary skills and to be told just how good her cooking really was! When she got our much-deserved compliments, the proud glow on her face will always be remembered…in her earlier years she was an avid skeet shooter, competing in skeet shoots across South Texas often with her family in toe. In her early 40s, mom learned to fly and flew to Dallas many times to get her daughter for the holidays, no easy task. She also went back to college in the mid-80s wanting to better herself and did very well in school.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Carol held a special place in her heart for Rick's wife, Cheryl. She embraced Cheryl as if she were her own daughter, recognizing the love and happiness she brought into Rick's life and to the rest of our family. The bond they shared was one of love, friendship, mutual respect, laughter, and a deep appreciation for family.

She is preceded in death, by her husband, Richard Brassington, who served in the Army during WWII in Europe, defending our freedoms as a ‘Trail Blazer’ at the Battle of the Bulge. They loved and adored each other very much and were married for over 10 years before his passing at age 91. Her wonderful parents, Fred & Ruby Stewart, former mother & father -in law, Ira & Veda Hayley, and sister, Barbara Boone.

She is survived by her son Rick (Cheryl), daughter Barbara, son Jaxson Hayley, and granddaughters Jordan Savage, Joshelyn Hayley, and grandson, Hunter Hayley, her beloved cousin, Shirly Oneill, and former in-laws that loved her so much, Judy, Rack, Roland, Bettye, Roy, Kathy George & former husband Richard Hayley. She grew up in Corpus Christi where she met her lifelong friend Mollie Tinnell. She and Mollie shared the gift of love and friendship for over 73 years. Over 60 years of love from Georgia & Mickey Shufford, Judy & the late Ace Walker, & Carolyn Austin, all of whom were always there for her and so many others.

Carol's love knew no bounds, and her presence will be sorely missed by all the lives she touched. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, let us take solace in the memories she has left behind. The lessons she taught us about love, compassion, and the importance of family will forever guide us through life's journey.

Though she may no longer be physically present, her spirit will forever dwell within our hearts, reminding us to cherish every moment and to love unconditionally.

May you rest in eternal peace, dear mother. Your love will forever guide us, and your memory will be cherished for generations to come.   With love, The Hayley Family
