Dear Mr. Keim, Kenneth, Michael, and family,
I wish to express my condolences upon the death of your wife and mother. My memories of her are of a dedicated and hardworking person who was never absent or inconspicuous at a Minor Seminary festival, spaghetti dinner, or any other activity that required the help of willing parents. I also remember her shuttling us back and forth in her car to events for which the Volkswagens were not enough to transport everyone.
Being young and somewhat selfish, I never thanked Mrs. Keim or any of the other parents that generously gave of their time, resources, and kindness to help all of us at the seminary. Over the years I have come to regret that sin of omission. Mrs. Keim is now where she knows of my gratitude that has come with age. I offered Mass for the repose of her soul at St. Francis Cabrini parish in Laredo, Texas yesterday evening in return for her generosity to me and all of the students of CCMS.
I was a year behind Kenneth and a Senior during Michael's freshman year. They were both good guys. I am sure that you and Mrs. Keim have been proud of them and all your children.
I called my mother Sunday afternoon to tell her of Mrs. Keim's death, since she doesn't receive the Corpus Christi paper. She reminded me that you and wife invited her and my father to your home after the first parents' meeting of my freshman year to view the television broadcast of A Man For All Season, the life and martyrdom of St. Thomas More. She said that she was so surprised by the spontaneous hospitality that they accepted the invitation and had a wonderful Sunday afternoon at your home on Manhattan Street that September of 1973.
Mr. Keim, I will offer Mass this morning for you and all your family. I ask that you remember me in your prayers also.
In Christ,
Rev. Msgr. James Harris
