Catherine “Kay” Moore LaRue, 91, passed away April 25, 2021 with her children beside her. She was born to Gregory and Ethel Moore on April 17, 1930 in Austin, TX. She and her dear friend Patty, who affectionately called her “Kitten” her entire life, had much fun growing up near the UT campus and Barton Springs. She liked to share the fact that her home was where the LBJ library sits now. Her family moved to Corpus Christi in 1945 when her father became the City Planner. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy and Del Mar College with lots of fun memories. She then attended the University of Texas at Austin and upon returning home, worked at Humble Oil in 1952.
Kay met Sam O. LaRue through mutual friends, Peggy and Ted Anderson, and they married September 20, 1952. They lived in Oklahoma City, Colorado, and ultimately, Houston, where they raised their 4 children. She treasured her friends and neighbors in each city. In the 1980’s, she returned to Corpus to care for her parents and loved living in Marina del Sol near her longtime friends Ed and Delores Meisenheimer, as well as others. In 2000, she moved to the Woodlands to be near her daughter Cathy and her kids.
Kay loved children and animals and had a great sense of humor. She was still saying her funny expressions until the end.
Thank you to Jennifer and Autum for bringing her so much joy in these last years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Monte, and her daughter Catherine Ann Kelley.
She is survived by daughters Julia Diane, Laura Gay, son James Gregory and his wife Julie, their children Trace and Rylan, and Cathy’s sons Chris and Ryan and two great grandchildren Axel and Ace Kelley.
Her graveside service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 4th at Seaside Funeral Home on Ocean Drive in Corpus Christi, TX.
If you would like to make a donation in her memory, she loved the organization “Guiding Eyes for the Blind”.
