Catherine Adele Wheaton

Catherine Wheaton, age 94, passed away May 18, 2023. She was born December 12, 1928 to Arthur and Catherine Hamilton in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Catherine is preceded in death by her husband Robert Wheaton.

Catherine graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor Degree in Medical Technology and began a career performing hospital laboratory work, during a time when analysis work was completed by hand and required a deep knowledge of chemistry and biology.

Catherine, “Cathy”, married Robert Wheaton in July 1956. They were married for 54 years. Cathy was a protective and loving mother to son, Ronald Wheaton (Melissa), and daughter, Janice Wheaton Markle (Rick) and mentor to 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is survived by 2 sisters, her twin Mary Hamilton Yeakey and Sarah Hamilton.

She was always busy, noted for her gourmet cooking and advance sewing skills. Her laboratory knowledge no doubt bolstered her love of experimenting in the kitchen, creating many wonderful and unique dishes. Her husband often stated “If you really like this dish, savor it, because you may never get one exactly like it again”. All family members benefited from her cooking and many grandchildren proudly wore the colorful outfits she created for them. Cathy was a champion of education, a life member of the American Association of College Women. She promoted books, reading and family. She was active in a multitude of community groups and functions throughout her life.

Now that she has moved to a Greater Place we will all have to learn to craft clothes and make our own delightful preserves. Those memories and senses will live on forever through all who knew her. Miss you and love you Mom.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am on Thursday May 25, 2023 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, TX 78412. A rosary service will be recited at 11:00am that same morning with a Funeral Service being celebrated at 11:30am following the rosary.
