Obituary

Cleo Collin “Pete” Dunlap passed away October 8, 2019 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 94. He passed away peacefully surrounded by people that loved and cared for him. He was born January 13, 1925 in Nolan County, Sweetwater, Texas; he was the second to the youngest of seven children to Robert P. Dunlap and Mary E. Collins Dunlap. He graduated from Divide High School at Nolan and Texas Tech University with a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering. He spent his entire career employed by Sun Oil Company, now known as Sunoco, progressing through various engineering and managerial assignments. At the time of his retirement, after thirty six years of service, he was the drilling manager for the exploration division. He was a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas for over fifty years and an honor member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers having also served for over fifty years. He was also a member of a local Baptist church.

After his loving wife declined in health and passed away in August of this year, he gave thanks to God for letting him fulfill his promise he made to his wife, to be by her side until the very end. We all knew he wouldn't last long after her passing because he was ready to be reunited with his loving wife once again.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 57 years- Alice Dunlap; three brothers- Alvin Dunlap, R.T. Dunlap and Jackson P. Dunlap; three sisters- Lela Dunlap Hill, Marie Dunlap Richardson and Ruth Dunlap Binkley; and one step-daughter- Diane Goodson. He is survived by one step-son William Benedict of Galveston, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held for family and friends Wednesday, October 16, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Following visitation will be a Graveside Service- both held at Seaside Memorial Park & Funeral Home.

A sincere thank you to everyone at Brookdale Corpus Christi and Kindred Hospice who attended to him during his time of need. Your love, care, and compassion will never be forgotten. Mr. Dunlap, it was a pleasure and an honor to have been a part of yours and Alice’s life. I believe God put us together for a season and a reason. You were a great soul and a dearly respected man. You will be missed dearly.
