Cornelia Gregg Sample Morgan passed away quietly on February 3, 2021. She leaves a legacy of love and creativity that will always be cherished by family and friends.
Born August 1, 1928 in New Orleans to George Gordon and Harriette May Simonton Sample, she attended the University of Texas in Austin where she met the love of her life, Benjamin Ernest Morgan. After graduation they married on June 25, 1949 and moved to Corpus Christi to start their life together. Their marriage lasted just short of 60 years and survived the tragedy of losing their only child, Stephen George Morgan to a drowning accident while attending UT in Austin.
Cornelia loved education, her major in college, and became a teacher once she and Ben settled in Corpus Christi. She was also a very gifted artist. Quilts and watercolors were her favorite media. Her works were displayed in many art shows and won prizes for their quality. She was generous in giving her creations to friends and family who proudly display them in their homes and workplaces.
Cornelia is survived by many nieces, nephews and their descendants. The family would like to thank caregivers at Mirador Retirement Community and in particular hospice nurses Valerie Hanson and Desiree Lopez for their help in Cornelia’s last days.
A graveside service will take place at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, February 9. Visitation will take place at Seaside Funeral Home between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. immediately preceding interment. Due to COVID-related travel issues, the family plans to have a celebration of Cornelia’s life later this year in Corpus Christi.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church 3151 Reid Drive Corpus Christi 78404 or to the attention of Audra Strube for the Benjamin E., Stephen G. and Cornelia S. Morgan Endowed Scholarship at DelMar College 101 Baldwin Corpus Christi 78404.
