Obituary

Delray Eugene Fischer, 91, passed away at home on September 14, 2021 after a long illness. He was born in San Antonio on September 21, 1929 to Reinhard R. Fischer and Juanita Eberle.

Delray was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Stephanie Marie (Freyer) Sheppard.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years, Rosemary Fischer; sister, Merrilyn Nedry Stamps of Corpus Christi; daughters, Brenda (Jim) Freyer of Pasadena, TX. and Lynn (Hugh) Norsworthy of Robstown, TX; grandsons, Sean (Nikki) Freyer of Lakeland, FL., Justin (Lindsay) Norsworthy of Linthicum, MD.; granddaughter, Rachel (Dustin) Ross of Durango, CO.; great-grandsons, Trinton Freyer and Kaden Sheppard of Pasadena, TX., Tyler, Landen and Austin Freyer of Lakeland, FL., Hunter and Parker Ross of Durango, CO.; great-granddaughters, Ada and Allie Norsworthy of Linthium, MD.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Delray attended school in San Antonio, Galveston, and Corpus Christi where he graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1947. He served briefly in the Merchant Marines, then worked at Celanese and Reynolds Metals (retired from Reynolds in 1981). He and his family started Leisure Time Hobbies in 1975 which they operated until 2000. Using skills he learned from various architectural classes at Del Mar Junior College, he built numerous scale models (such as Driscoll Hotel and Cliff House) for various architects in Corpus Christi. He was also instrumental in the conception and building of the Lexington Aircraft Carrier model that is now displayed at the Corpus Christi International Airport. In the mid 1990’s he got interested in genealogy and Texas land history. He compiled three books detailing the land grants in Texas. He also volunteered briefly at the Art Center of Corpus Christi. He was devoted to his family and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers Rosemary requests that donations be considered in memory of Delray to the Local History Room at La Retama Public Library, Art Center of Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend Food Bank or your favorite charity.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

The Family requests all those attending comply with safe Covid-19 practices.
Service will be “Live Streamed” for those unable to attend with “Live Stream” available on the Seaside Memorial website.
