Obituary
On May 31, 2018, Diana Kay (Pitts) Scherer ended her journey on this earth, where she enjoyed much of her time serving her community, wielding a tennis racquet, and traveling--her favorite destination being Sedona, Arizona. She had a competitive spirit, great taste in shoes, a knack for storytelling and a clever sense of humor.
Born October 27, 1946 to parents M. Sue Merrill and Charles H. Pitts (both deceased), Diana began her life in Hugo, Oklahoma. She spent much of her childhood with her beloved "Granny," Addie Taylor Merrill. In 1966, Diana married James M. (Jim) Scherer in Dallas, Texas and moved to Corpus Christi where they raised three lively boys, who fondly recall her cooking and diverse repertoire of delicious recipes (except for three bean salad). Diana devoted time to Junior League, Bayfest and Texas State Aquarium. She recently retired from her position as office manager at Al Kruse Tennis Center. Friends and colleagues who held a recent gathering in Diana's honor described her as a generous lady with lots of spunk and spark.
Diana exhibited quiet courage in her final days, spending time on favorite pastimes and helping others as long as she was able. Those who knew her, including family, Dr. James M. Scherer; Patty Vela (sister); Chris A. Scherer, David M. Scherer and John W. Scherer (sons); Brian Scherer, Virginia Scherer, Callan Scherer, Karis Scherer and Grant Scherer (grandchildren); and Sadie (pup) will miss her wit and her laughter. The family will memorialize Diana in private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the (501c3) non-profit Corpus Christi Tennis Association at 1520 Shely St., Corpus Christi, TX 78404; please designate your gift is for the Diana Scherer Scholarship Fund.
