Dionel “Dee” Garza passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022 at the age of 79. He was born on November 3, 1942 to Dionicio and Juanita Garza in Austwell, TX. Raised in Corpus Christi, TX, he graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1961. The next year, he married his junior high sweetheart, Irma Urrutia Garza, with whom he shared over 59 years.
In 1962, they moved to Chicago, where he rose through the ranks to become a Superintendent of a major meat packing company, raised a family, and attended Loyola University. He later became an entrepreneur, and grew a successful nationwide anti-piracy business until his retirement.
He will be remembered for his incredibly sharp wit, love of Tejano music and devotion to his family.
Dionel is preceded in death by his parents, his best friend and big brother Dionicio “Nick” Garza Jr., and his grand puppy Elmo.
Left to cherish memories are his wife, Irma Garza; his daughters, Monica (Ian) O’Keefe and Gloria (William) Caughlin, and his only grandchild, Matthew Martinez. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and an extensive network of family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Seaside Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 11:30 a.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. that same morning with an Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park. A reception will follow at Taqueria Express Seafood, 4425 S Alameda St., Corpus Christi, TX.
