Dorothy Fay Jackson Ward
September 29, 1933 ~ February 3, 2024 (age 90) 90 Years Old
On February 3, 2024, Dorothy Fay Jackson Ward was, by the grace of God, set free.
Dorothy was born in Longview, Texas on September 29, 1933 to James Lovell Jackson and Jimmie Quentella Ford Jackson. She attended high school in Waco, Texas and was accepted to Stephen F. Austin State University where she met the love of her life, Charles Alton (C.A.) Ward. Dorothy and C.A. were married in late 1952 at her family home in Waco, Texas.
Dorothy was awarded both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree in 1954 from Stephen F. Austin State University and later also received a Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1957.
She is survived by her four children, Joyce Fleenor, Charles Ward Jr., James Ward, and Fay Vasquez, grandchildren, Jeremy Degenhardt, Charles (Cal) Ward III, Howard Carlyon, and Dennis (D.J.) Carlyon, her sisters Carroll Marie Coffman, and Quentella Kay Garza, four great grandchildren, as well as a large extended family. She was preceded in death by C.A. and her brother and sisters May Evelyn Carnahan, Lessie Lucille Spindle, Ruth Estelle Ramey, James Arnold Jackson, and Jane Ann Jackson.
Dorothy spent the entirety of her professional life serving the educational needs of the people of Texas. She also supported her church ministries by playing the clarinet in the church orchestra and by teaching English as a Second Language classes for Adults and GED classes for many years. She also worked to maintain a beautiful community flower garden on Santa Fe Street for everyone to enjoy. She was a talented artist in her own right and produced many paintings the family will treasure for years to come. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will take place on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi, Texas and will be streamed live online at the link below or at http://www.seasidefuneral.com. A visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, with a memorial service at 12:00 PM, and inurnment to follow at 1:00 PM.
