Elida Sáenz Guerra, 90, was called home on May 13, 2022. She was born to Antonio Peña Sáenz and Lucia Guerra Sáenz on December 22, 1931 in Palo Blanco, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 64 years, six siblings, and two grandchildren, Carolyn Vera Lichtenberger and Carlos Castillo.
Elida grew up on a ranch on Tienditas, Texas and spent her time helping raise her ten younger siblings and tending to the land. She married the love of her life, José Hernan Guerra Sr., on December 10, 1950. They lived in Corpus Christi, Texas where they raised their seven children and always kept their door open to their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Elida was known for filling their home with pictures, flowers, and the best home-cooked meals. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her love for gardening, and her enjoyment of the daily word jumble puzzle.
Elida is survived by her children, Lydia (Saturnino) Vera, Maria Guerra Lopez, Velma Guerra, Eloy (Gloria) Guerra, Joe (Rosa) Guerra, Jr., Gloria (Robert) Connor, and David (Eileen) Guerra; grandchildren, Andrew Vera, Clarissa Lopez-Briseño, Melinda Hernandez, Lori Morales, Daniel Lopez, Jr., Erik Guerra, Anthony Guerra, Sr., Audrey Guerra, Alex Guerra, Sr., Sarah E. Connor, Taylor Guerra, David Guerra, Jr., Lisa Casarez, Ruben Casarez, and Emilie Flemister.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with an Entombment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Vera, David Guerra, Sr., Daniel Lopez, Jr., Erik Guerra, Anthony Guerra, Sr., and Alex Guerra, Sr.
