Elodia R. Valdez

Elodia Rendon Valdez was called home on February 16, 2017, at the age of 86. She was born in San Benito, Texas on July 15, 1930. She is now reunited with her beloved parents Guadalupe Leal and Francisco Rendon, husband Santos Valdez, son Ramon A. Valdez, and great-granddaughter Angelina Rose Vela; sisters Emma Cantu, Guadalupe Garcia; brothers Emilio, Ruben, Ramon and Victor Rendon. Elodia relocated in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1947 and married her soulmate Santos Valdez in 1950. She was active in the founding of Holy Family Catholic Church where she served as a Guadalupana. She was also a member of LULAC and the GI Forum. Elodia was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother and proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored her nephews and nieces along with the many people she encountered in her lifetime. She owned and operated Valdez General Store from 1978 to 1993 and Taco Rico from 1995 to present day.

She is survived by her children, Orlando (Sylvia) Valdez, Rene Valdez, Gloria Perez, Irma (Roland) Cevallos, Maria Back, Cornelio (Connie) Valdez, Santos Valdez, Jr., Lourdes Valdez, Ronaldo (Angie) Valdez, Romeo (Josie) Valdez and Victor (Laura) Valdez; her sister, Lydia Dominguez; 33 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

She was a beautiful woman with a heart of gold and we will miss her so much along with her gift for storytelling and most especially her daily blessing of, “Que Diosito Te Bendiga” to all that crossed her path. The Valdez family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of River City Hospice, Coastal Bend Cancer Center- Dr. Ajay Sehgal, Dr. Pedro Torres & Dr. Sergio Avalos for their compassion and care of our dear mother during the time of her illness.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited that same evening at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
