Emilia Virginia Gonzales

July 7, 1933 ~ May 18, 2018 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Obituary

Our Lord called home Emilia Virginia “Vicki” Limon Gonzales May 18, 2018 after a courageous battle against cancer. She will be remembered with love by many.

Vicki was born in Round Rock, Texas on July 7, 1933 to Saturnino and Paula Gomez Limon. After meeting David Gonzales of Gallup, New Mexico, during his final months of serving in the US Navy, they fell in love and married on August 28, 1955. They settled in Corpus Christi to begin their lives together and start their family.

Vicki was a graduate of Corpus Christi High School and Del Mar College. During high school, she served as president of the Hi-Fairnessee Girls’ Club and earned membership in the National Honor Society.

After college, she began her professional career at the naval air station. Throughout her 42-year career, she spent many years of distinguished service as administrative officer of Public Works Department in Building 19. She retired as Navy Civilian Deputy Comptroller, becoming the first female and the first Hispanic to earn this position at NAS-Corpus Christi.

Vicki made a way for women in civil service to gain positions normally held by men.

As a role model in many ways she served on the board at Navy-Army Community Credit Union for 23 years and was elected Chairman of the Board for two terms.

Vicki and her husband David raised four wonderful children, David Paul, Kenneth, Sue, and Theresa. As their mom, Vicki prepared home cooked meals, homemade tortillas, and home remedies that benefited the children on a regular basis. Vicki never missed a game where her kids were competing, and she was always there to nurse the bumps and bruises that resulted from the contests.

Vicki was Mom to four, but she was “Mama G” to all their friends. Her door was opened wide to offer delicious meals, generous counseling, and wise advice.

Generous with her time and talents, Vicki served her community without hesitation. She taught CCD classes here at this parish, she sponsored numerous children in their Christian education and achievement of Catholic sacraments, she supported her children and their schools as booster club president and PTA officer. Vicki pretty much said, “Yes!” to anyone who asked for her help.

Vicki was courageous. She stared illness in the face and leaned on her faith to help her through. She was smart, kind, loving, generous, and brave.  Her walk with Christ was authentic and a great example for her family and community members. Her compassionate nature warmed those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Friday, our Lord called her home. She will be missed always, but she will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace and love.

Vicki is preceded in death by her husband David Gonzales, her parents Saturnino Limon and Paula Gomez Limon, and her sister Estella Limon Martinez.  She is survived by her adoring children David Paul Gonzales of Waco, Texas,  Kenneth Gonzales, Suzanne “Sue” Gonzales and Theresa “Tess” Gonzales, all of Corpus Christi, grandchildren Ethan Gonzales of Waco, Mikaela Gonzales of Corpus Christi, great-grandson Levi Hasette of Corpus Christi, sister Mary Louise Limon Vera and numerous nieces and nephews.
