Emma Solis Gomez, 87 years old, passed away on June 19,2022. She was born on July 10,1934 to Jesus G. and Cristina P. Solis, in Alice, Texas. She was raised in Hebbronville, Texas, where she also attended school.
Emma was the 5th child of 7 children. She was the last surviving child of the family, her brothers and sisters, having passed away, some more recently and others in earlier years.
She will always be remembered for her caring nature; love of collecting antiques; crafting, as well as, gifting the crafts she created to family and friends; her generosity towards others; and meeting others while shopping. Emma would tirelessly make sequined eggs that she would frequently give to family and persons she encountered or were especially kind to her. She greatly enjoyed playing Loteria with her family, especially her grandkids. Grandma had her favorite playing cards, “off-limits” to everyone else, and relished every win, especially the “big money pot” at the end. Emma loved to watch her Mexican novellas and would share with anyone, the details of the ongoing saga.
Emma would recount with joy some of her favorite childhood memories. Her favorite family story was recounting when her mother, Cristina, would go shopping, her father, Jesus would go into a “secret” space, and would reveal to them the gifts they were getting for Christmas, including the stockings with candies, fruits and nuts that were part of the Christmas gifts.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Baldomero P. Solis and Hector P. Solis, as well as her sisters, Julia Lopez, Estella Cabrera, Lily Flores and Irma Lee Solis. She also lost her infant daughter, Cynthia Ann Perez.
Emma is survived by her sons, Oscar C. Perez, Olivero S. Perez, and Jose M. (JD) Gomez, her daughters, Araceli Marie Guzman, Patricia Ann Perez, and Gloria Jean Ramos. Emma is also survived by her 10 great grandchildren with one on the way and 2 great great grandchildren.
