Emma Sue Wickman Hudson “Mommu” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren — went to be with her Lord early Monday morning, May 2nd at the age of 90.
Eldest of three daughters, she and her sisters, Charlene Payton Farris (deceased) and Florence May “Jackie” Keener, were very close and devoted to each other and to their parents, Matthew Charles Wickman and Florence Sudheimer Wickman (both deceased).
Sue was born August 29, 1931, in Springfield, Missouri, and their family lived in several locations, eventually settling in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was there that she became a Christian and was a faithful servant, volunteering at church and lending her angelic voice to the choir.
It was also in Corpus that she met and fell in love with Melvin Glenn “Pinky” Hudson, to whom she was happily married until his death in 2013.
Her skills as a secretary earned her the position of Administrative Assistant to the President of Del Mar Junior College for many years until she retired to spend more time traveling the world with Pinky, continuing their activities at church, enjoying their friends, and growing family.
In 2008 Sue and Pinky moved to Cedar Park, Texas, where they once again became involved at church and were delighted to spend time not only with their children and grandchildren, but now also with great-grandchildren who were entering the picture.
After the death of her dear Pinky, Sue continued her activities at church and spent her leisure time working on her photo albums and writing her autobiography and poetry. She loved her family and friends, and was interested in meeting people and hearing them talk about their lives, believing everyone has a story to tell.
Sue often said her biggest blessing was her family. She is survived by her children, John Hudson and wife Sharon, and Glenna Sue Hudson Garcia and husband Al; sister Florence May “Jackie” Keener; grandchildren David Taylor Hawkins and wife Marycruz (children Tavi & Donovan); Nicholas Hawkins and wife Bri; Stephen Garcia and wife Jennifer (children Hudson & Asher); Ben Harris and wife Laura (children Jack & Emerson “Emmy”); Adrienne Harris Hargrave and husband Jared (children Miller, Graham & Emma Ford, Sue’s namesake); and Gabriel Garcia.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Sue’s influence is evidenced by the outpouring of love and affection for her expressed by our extended family and friends.
