Eugene A. Gonzalez, age 90, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017. He was born on August 22, 1926 to Joe Gonzalez and Silvestria Gallegos Gonzalez in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Corpus Christi High School after serving in the United States Marine Corp during World War II from 1944 until 1946. He returned to graduate in 1947. He was a Private 1st Class, a sharpshooter and received good conduct commendations. He participated in the liberation of the Solomon Islands and the Philippine Islands.
He married his wife of 68 years on June 5, 1949. Gene was employed and retired from Dupont. Gene was a loving husband, father and brother.
He enjoyed participation in his church, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He also volunteered his time with Toys for Tots and St. Vincent de Paul. He will always be remembered for his quiet nature, service in the community, devotion to family and watching sporting events. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. He was an avid boxing fan and had been a Golden Gloves boxer.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; Joe and Silvestria Gonzalez, three brothers; Joe Gonzalez, Jr., Alfonso Gonzalez, Rudy Gonzalez, two sisters; Adela Murray, Elida Enriquez; numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene is survived by his wife; Palmira Cisneros Gonzalez, daughter; Patricia Torres, Son-in-law; Dr. Roy Torres, sibling; Gregorio Gonzalez of San Antonio, grandchildren; Danielle Miller (Joey), Brooke Tarrer of Houston, great grandchildren; Joshua Graf, Tyler Graf of Houston.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Seaside Reid Chapel. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 7522 Everhart Road, Yorktown and Everhart.
Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Roy Torres, Joey Miller, Jesse Garza, Joe Vasquez, and great grandsons, Joshua Graf and Tyler Graf.
