Federico G. Garcia, fondly known as Lico to family and close friends, passed away on October 19, 2021 at the age of 92. After several months of declining health, Federico died peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved wife Maria Amelda and their children by his side.
Federico G. Garcia was born on September 11, 1929 to Federico Garcia and Eva Galvan. His mother died shortly after his birth, and subsequently, was raised by his godparents, Refugio and Maria Garcia, in Kingsville, Texas. He attended school at St. Martin Parochial School and Stephen F. Austin School and then continued to High School at Corpus Christi College Academy where he excelled as an honor student.
After graduation, he voluntarily enlisted into the Armed Forces where he served as a medical lab technician in the Army serving three years at Fort Richardson Anchorage, Alaska.
Upon his return, he continued his education with the GI Bill and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in January 1954, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. He was a member of the Rho Chi Society, an International Pharmaceutical Honor Society.
On August 14, 1955, he married his sweetheart, Maria Amelda Hinojosa, and recently, they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
He was a beloved father of three children, Federico Orlando Garcia (Sadie), Mary Ester Cortez (Rudy), and Carlos Adrian Garcia (Casey), grandfather of six grandchildren, Fred, Vicky, Gabby, Sara, Bianca, and Carlos and great-grandfather of four great-grandchildren, Gavin, Grady, Mia, and Olivia.
Federico G. Garcia was a man of strong faith, determination, and good will. He was a caring patriarch of his immediate and extended family. He was dearly loved and held in the highest regard by friends and extended family members. He firmly believed that an individual was only as good as their word. He instilled his strong work ethic and love for education to his children by encouraging them to continue their college education and to strive in their careers. Practicing what he preached, he worked for 57 years as a pharmacist in Corpus Christi, TX and the surrounding area.
He is preceded in death by his parents and godparents, and his older brothers and sisters, Rosaura, Ninfa, Leon, Alfredo, Pedro, Margarita, and Maria Guadalupe.
He always enjoyed a party or gathering with family and friends with lots of food and music. His memory will be treasured fondly, and Lico will be remembered for his hard work ethic, his sense of humor, and his dedication to faith and family.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Seaside Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas followed with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 10:00 o'clock on Monday, October 25, 2021 which is located at 5830 Williams Dr. followed by interment at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.
