Frances Maxine Skrobarczyk, 91, went to be with the Lord and her loved ones on May 27, 2021. She was born to Percy George Mercer and Rhea Boudousquie Mercer on September 28, 1929 in Nogales, Arizona. Since her father was a Rice Merchant in Mexico until she was almost six, she had a lifelong love of Mexico and the Spanish language. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School in San Antonio and won the National Debate Contest in Chicago. Maxine was offered college scholarships but instead chose to work to help support her mother and brother. On April 19, 1952 she married the love of her life, William Skrobarczyk, Sr. and they shared 55 years together and had eight children. Maxine and Bill were devout Catholics believing God first, then each other and then the children. God and family were so important to her.
Maxine enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a giving, compassionate, patient, loving mother, grandmother and friend. She had a welcoming sweet smile that delighted all and she loved to have fun and laugh. She loved Mexican food, mariachis, afternoon tea and a good party. As she aged with Alzheimer’s she taught us to love, persevere and find joy in the journey of life. She proved that life is precious and valuable even to the final moment as she shared spiritual experiences with others. Maxine is a beautiful soul who will continue to bless us forever.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William “Bill Barr” Skrobarczyk, Sr.; their son, Michael; her brother, George Mercer, and son-in-law, David Adams.
