March 5, 1934 ~ March 11, 2023 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Obituary

Francisca “Frances” Ybarra Barrera, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023 in Magnolia, Texas.

Frances was born in San Benito, Texas on March 5, 1934.  Frances was the oldest of six children born to Andres S. Ybarra and Angelita V. Ybarra and was raised in San Benito, Texas.

Frances graduated from San Benito High School in San Benito, Texas in 1952. She married Robert R. Barrera on January 15, 1959, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Frances was employed at Jene Marie Gift Shop in Corpus Christi, Texas for 30 years, where she managed accounting and was known as the “voice of Jene Marie.” Each Christmas, Frances would choose special ornaments, many of which were from Jene Marie, to give to her children and grandchildren, which have been passed on and are still cherished. Frances and Robert were married for 57 years until his passing in 2016.

Frances enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and traveling to Mexico with her husband. She even decided to go parasailing on her 75th birthday, while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Frances loved the beach, the bayfront, dancing, and dessert – any dessert. She also loved Elvis, elephants, and watching sports, primarily Tiger Woods golf and her Dallas Cowboys.

Frances will be remembered for her kindness, her genuine heart, her love for her family, and her beautiful and gracious smile. Lastly, she will be remembered for always having THE best sweet tea on hand, of seemingly endless quantity.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Andres and Angelita; her husband, Robert; her sisters, Herminia and Eva; and her brother, Andres.

Frances is survived by her sister, Alicia; her brother, Carlos (Sylvia); her children, Irma Siojo (Julius), Robert Barrera, Jr. (Gloria), Mary Helen Almaraz, and Mary Grace Peña (Ernest); her grandchildren, Jennifer Gast (Colin), Nicholas Peña (Destiny), Catherine DeShaw (Jonathan), Matthew Barrera, Amanda Almaraz, Alexandria Peña, Jonathan Haynie, Stephen Barrera (Sarah), Alyssa Ellis-Roberson (Joshua), Kaitlin Lwowski (Jonathan), and Lauren Siojo; her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, Jaylen, Jordan, Keira, Stephen, Samuel, Stella Beth, and Leo; and her great-great-grandchild, Analaya.
