Obituary

Frank Salas Lazarte, Jr. received his heavenly wings on February 4, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was 95. He was born to Francisco and Stella Lazarte on November 5, 1925. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Mary Santa (Ponce) and younger sister, Ramona (Barrera). His surviving brother is Nick Lazarte.

Frank attended and graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1944. The United States’ involvement in World War II had been waging since December 1941. Frank answered the call to service and obtained the rank of Sergeant in the United States Army.

He saw duty in World War II as a paratrooper and radio operator for the 152nd Airborne Anti-Aircraft Battalion, 11th Airborne Division serving in the Pacific Theater and taking part in the Occupation of Japan. He was also honored to jump with the 82nd Airborne Battalion. In recognition of his service, he earned the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal and an Overseas Service Bar. He was honorably discharged from the military in December 1946.

Upon his return from active duty, Frank was employed at the Corpus Christi Army Depot from 1947 until he retired in 1981. After his retirement from CCAD, he worked at the City of Corpus Christi Gas Division and several other jobs before retiring for the second time in 1990.

He was honored on his 90th birthday by a resolution in the State of Texas House of Representatives in 2015.

He married the love of his life, Alice Barrera, on September 8, 1949. They were married for 71 years. Frank and Alice have four children. They are Michael Andrew (Jaade), Dr. Richard Charles (Deb), Debra Susan Escobar (Robert), and surprise child Frank Allen (Bonnie).

Frank was very active in his children’s sports and was a baseball coach at International Little Leauge for several years. Frank was very proud of his four children, nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He attended many of their special functions and recitals throughout the years. While accumulating this family tree he was known by many names. They included son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, coach, popo, grandpa, great grandpa, and friend.

Frank and Alice loved to dance and were involved in several dance clubs. They would attend dances regularly, and enjoyed dancing with each other and family. After his retirement, Frank and Alice took advantage of their love of travel, gambling and dancing, by traveling extensively with more than a few casino’s finding their way into their travel plans. Frank loved music and played the guitar. His love of music found its way down the family ladder. Some of his kids and grandkids shared their musical talents with Frank and Alice at numerous family gatherings.

As a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and proud military veteran, Frank lived his life with honor and dignity and was a source of tremendous pride and inspiration for his family and friends and anyone who was fortunate enough to know him. He will be dearly missed.

The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff at New Century Hospice, especially to nurse Lidia and aid Melissa as well as Lisa and Jesse.

In 2019 The Frank and Alice Scholarship Fund was established. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to The Frank and Alice Lazarte Scholarship Fund at 3636 South Alameda Suit B #112, Corpus Christi, TX 78411

Having the distinguished honor of serving as pallbearers will be Frank Allen Lazarte, John Ponce, Joshua Lazarte, Daniel Lazarte, Chris Thomasson, and Kris Painschab.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm that same evening. A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with Interment to follow in Seaside Memorial Park.
