Gary L. Merrill

August 29, 1955 ~ October 7, 2021 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Obituary

Gary Loren Merrill was born in Corpus Christi on August 29, 1955 and passed from this life on October 7, 2021.  Gary called Corpus Christi home for all 66 years of his life.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Maxine Merrill of Corpus Christi; Father-in-law, Dub Miller of Corpus Christi and two infant daughters.

Gary is survived by his wife, Twila Merrill; Son, Justin Merrill and wife Jamie of Corpus Christi; his daughter Chantal Merrill of Corpus Christi; brother, Jack Merrill and wife Tina of Corpus Christi; Mother-in-law, Imogene Miller of Corpus Christi; Brother-in-law, Leroy Darrow of Corpus Christi;Grandchildren, Brandon, Knate, Autumn and Zane and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary graduated from King High School in 1973 and married Twila Merrill the love of his life a year later on May 31, 1974. They were married for 47 years.

If you knew Gary then you knew how much he loved his wife. Twila was his soulmate, his ride-or-die person. If you look up the meaning of that phrase, it explains that it is someone that is willing to support you and stick by your side through thick and thin and will ride with you until the end and that he did. The two of them worked side by side at their company for many years until his final breath on Thursday.

Gary lived every day like it would be his last, because, he knew that none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow. He was an avid outdoorsman, motorcycle enthusiast and had a serious need for speed and excitement. The faster a car could go the better. He didn’t live in fear of what could happen tomorrow, because, he was too busy living today.

Gary loved God and his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were the greatest joy in this life. Oh, but his love extended far beyond those closest to him. He took being a son, brother, uncle, cousin or friend just as seriously. If Gary called you his family or friend then you knew that he would drop whatever he was doing to help you if you called him. He truly was just a phone call away.

Gary lived his life unapologetically. He knew who he was and where he was going when this life was over. He was a simple man.
