George BallantyneOctober 4, 1931 ~ February 10, 2018 (age 86)
George DeWar Ballantyne age 86 passed away February 10, 2018 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on October 4, 1931 and raised in West Caldwell, New Jersey.
George joined the United States Air Force in 1948. During his time in the USAF he completed his high school education. He served during turbulent times the Korean Conflict, Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. While in service to his country George rose to the rank of Senior Master Sargent and obtained numerous awards for his accomplishments. In 1970 he retired in San Antonio, Texas.
The most important event in his life took place in 1950 when by chance he met the beautiful young Lorene McConnell. He knew he had to marry her and they did a week later. Together they raised a family of two sons and a daughter.
After his service to his country he was ready for a new challenge. He attended "Our Lady of The Lake University” in San Antonio, Texas. In 1974 he graduated with a Masters Degree "Master of Social Work". Soon George was working a the Baptist Hospital. His title George D. Ballantyne LMSW-AP. After 18 years of employment he retired in 1996.
The title he loved best was Husband, Dad, Grand Pa, and Great Grand Pa. He was loved by all who knew him and called by some Mr. Happy. More than anything he enjoyed time with family.
He leaves behind his loving Wife, of 67 years, Lorene, son, Michael and daughter, Carolyn Buttram, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and one broken hearted Son-in-law.
I know they're having a good time in Heaven because "Mr. Happy" has arrived.
A Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Seaside Memorial Park.
