George Bertran Richard, 76, went to be with the Lord on January 10. 2018. He was born on March 27, 1941 to Elias Lazarus Richard and Edna Alma Lendore. He was born and raised in the village of San Nicolas, Aruba, where he was known as “Boyo”. He was the middle of 7 children, having 3 brothers and 3 sisters. “Boyo” attended Don Bosco School, St. Augustinius College and the MTS Technical School. He was an avid baseball and ping pong player and member of the Don Bosco sports club.
George graduated from the Hoge Technical University in Breda, Netherlands and achieved a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, George returned home to Aruba and was employed by Lago Refinery. Several years later he was hired by Hess Oil Refinery, and relocated to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, where he worked after 10 years.
It was in St. Croix a Hess Oil where George met and married Emilia Colon, a Secretary in the Operations Department. They have been married for 49 years and have 2 sons, Marc Jason and George Brian Richard. In St. Croix George was a President in the St. Croix Lions Club, Manager of a Hess Oil Soft ball team and involved in an island bowling league.
George and family then relocated in New Orleans, Louisiana and he was employed with Amoco Refinery. After a few years, George became a Maintenance Manager in a refinery project in Liberia, West Africa. It was in Liberia that George and Emilia became Christians and accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The family moved to New York, joined Calvary Baptist Church, where George and Emilia were baptized together. Two years later, they moved to Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, where George was employed with a Yanbu Petromin Refinery. During his time George met another engineer, Cedric Charles, and the two of them passionately studied, attended and conducted weekly home bible meetings. Almost 6 years later, George moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where he was employed at Citgo refinery.
In his Christian life, George has been involved with the Beeville Jail Ministry and was instrumental in introducing Promise Keepers to several churches. Throughout his thirty years in Corpus, he was a member of The Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship and Family Life Church. And for the past 12 years he was a member of St. John the Baptist Church Greenwood. George loved his pastor and church family. He has worked primarily with small groups, Finance and special pastoral projects. He started a Travel Agency Business in which he arranged cruises and several times, we had “Services on the High Seas”. He also worked with the Caring for the Latino Heart Ministries.
George’s greatest devotion is to his Lord, his church and his family because “We know that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
George is preceded in death by his father, Elias Lazarus Richard, mother, Edna Alma Lendore and brother, Frank A. Richard. Left to cherish his memories is his wife, Emilia C. Richard, sons, Marc J. Richard and wife Beatrix Richard and George Brian Richard. His grandchildren: Glenn Roscoe, William Richard, Kyanna I. Richard and Antonio Jevon Richard. His sisters: Gertrude E. Richard, Grace V. Richard, Mary Agnes Richard. Brothers: Ulric A. Richard and Lloyd B. Richard, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at St. John’s Baptist Church, 5445 Greenwood Dr. Corpus Christi, Texas. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Church.
Having the distinguished honor to be pallbearers are: Prince Macon, Raymond Davis, Huey Dorn, Floyd Williams, Stan Heslip and John Davis.
