Gloria Evelyn Brooks aged 93 passed away September 2nd 2021. She was born to Clarence Max Lipscomb and Bonnie Alban Lester on September 22nd 1927 in Lockhart, Texas. She was raised there and spent much of her childhood on the banks of Clear Fork/Plum Creek with her family, aunts & uncles and grandparents. Gloria attended Harding University in Arkansas and Texas Women’s College in Denton Texas. Gloria & her roommate were recruited to teach in the Valley and they both moved there to work. It was there she met and married Jerald Brooks and they were married on July 2, 1949. They were married for 67 years. Jerald had purchased a diner/soda shop after WWll that was just off campus and this is where they met.
Gloria was a talented artist and seamstress. She enjoyed crafts and made countless pictures, posters, and activities for the children’s bible classes at Norton Street Church of Christ as well as projects with her kids. Gloria loved chemistry and would make posters of the periodic table with great explanation and the properties, composition and structure of elements and compounds – these were presented to the family after supper – who would patiently be rewarded with ice cream at the close. She must have read the Bible 5000 times and was always ready with an answer, she knew it backwards and forwards. Gloria actively corresponded and taught people in Africa about the Bible and sent numerous Bibles overseas. She did this for many years. One couple who she kept in touch with often, named their first child after her and the second after Jerald.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Wayland Benner Lipscomb and Max Lester Lipscomb
