Obituary

Gloria Isabel Caravantes, 98, passed away at her home on Friday, November 22, 2019. She was born on September 18, 1921, in Mexico City, Mexico, and was the oldest of four children born to Pedro and Helen Kirtland Caravantes.

   She is preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Ted Caravantes. She is survived by two sisters, Marcia Caravantes of Corpus Christi, and Patty Farrar of Dallas; sister-in-law, Peggy Caravantes; nieces and nephews, Brian Caravantes (Susan) of Houston; Susan Kay Caravantes (Bill) Richter of Carrollton; Jeffrey Caravantes of San Antonio; and Linda Farrar of Dallas; and great-niece and nephews Michael (Ashley), Katie, and Christopher Caravantes.
   Gloria was employed by Exxon Oil Company for 38 years as staff assistant to the Land Manager. She served as president of the Corpus Christi Desk and Derrick Club and later served as president of the International Desk and Derrick Club. During her career with Exxon, she also was a member of the Business & Professional Women’s Club.

   With her sister, Marcia, she operated a successful catering business, MarGlo’s Catering, for 30 years.

   Gloria taught Sunday School for all ages in several local United Methodist churches and served on many church committees. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church where she was active in both the Friendship and the CCI Sunday School classes. She was an honorary life member of the Church Council and recipient of the Bishop’s Exemplar Award.
   Gloria loved her Lord, her family and friends, children, singing, and gardening. She was a teacher at heart and a lifelong learner who was astute, conversational in a myriad of topics, and eager to talk about the issues of the day.

   The family wishes to thank Gloria’s doctor, Dr. Ronald Munson, and the nurses and staff at AAdi Home Health for their dedicated service and care.

   A graveside service, with the Rev. Carol Pifer officiating, was held at Seaside Memorial Park on Monday, November 25, 2019.

   Memorial gifts in Gloria’s memory may be given to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 5300 S. Alameda, Corpus Christi, TX 78412.
